Jett Travolta’s Death and Scientology
By PrivatePigg ~ January 4th, 2009. Filed under: cult.
Although it’s probably unfair to ask the question, it would be interesting to know the answer. And since I’m sure John Travolta doesn’t read this blog, I’ll ask it: Did Jett Travolta’s death have anything to do with John’s belief in Scientology?
- For years it has been speculated that Jett Travolta was autistic.
- Scientology does not recognize autism.
- The Travolta’s maintained Jett had “Kawasaki Syndrome,” a disease caused, in this case, by home-based chemicals, rather than autism, a neurological disorder. The symptoms of the two are hardly similar.
- In 2006, family members pleaded for John to recognize that his son has autism, and to do something about it.
- In May of 2007, Jett’s death was predicted by those who feared that Jett was not receiving the proper care for his autism by his parents.
- Last week, Jett reportedly had a seizure and hit his head when he fell, causing his death.
- Seizures, of course, are indicators of autism. Some autistic children develop seizures, while others don’t develop seizures until adolescence (Jett was 16).
- Jett, reportedly, had a history of seizures.
- Properly medicated with anticonvulsants, most seizures can be prevented.
So, the question becomes: was Jett autistic, and, if so, was he denied potentially life-saving medication and/or treatment because of John and Kelly’s belief in Scientology?
I’m not sure where I stand on the issue of whether or not the Travolta’s would be guilty of child endangerment or some related crime if the answers to the above question are “Yes.” It’s sort of like the fundamentalist who refuses a blood transfusion to save his child’s life because of his religious beliefs.

Your conclusion sucks. Jett was on anti-seizure medication. And the Church of Scientology does not interfere in medical treatments.

Well, I can’t say that I came to any conclusions. I stated 9 facts, all cited, and then (very clearly) speculated.
As for Jett being on anti-seizure medication, there are multiple sites that state he had discontinued any anti-seizure meds long ago. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thedishrag/2009/01/john-travolta-1.html Your MSNBC link itself says so. Jett, clearly, was not taking anti-seizure meds at the time of his death.
To say that the Church of Scientology doesn’t interfere in medical treatments is an absurd statement. One need only remember Tom Cruise calling psychiatry a “pseudo-science” while on the Today Show. We call psychiatrists “doctors” and we recognize their “medical treatments.” Psychiatrists - doctors - routinely prescribe medication to treat psychiatric conditions. Scientology clearly would “interfere” with any psychiatric care prescribed as they do not believe it is even a real science. And Tom’s insistence on Katie’s birthing methods, etc. also would go against traditional science (the idea that making noise during labor somehow traumatizes the child - find me some peer-reviewed medical literature to support that).

We now know Jett was taking a drug called Depakote, a strong anti-seizure medication. There have been reports Travolta refused to give his son anti-seizure meds because of Scientology but those stories are not true.

The key word being was, according to his parents. The question is: why was it discontinued? I know his parents claim it was due to organ damage, and that is a rare, but real, side-effect of the drug, but how tough would it be to discontinue a medication and claim a side-effect is the reason? I mean, the side effects are right on the side of the bottle! If you ever needed an excuse to justify discontinuing medicine, just read the label and claim one of the side-effects… I hope that’s not the case, but plenty of people with autism live full and happy lives long passed their teenage years if they are given the proper treatment, part of which is medication.
The only reason I even speculate is because Scientology is such a bizarre and goofy cult. Psychiatry is a pseudo-science? Ok, Tom. You and your high school degree sure know better than the entire medical community…

It’s sad. Children sometimes do suffer because of a parent’s beliefs. The news in our country says John Travolta refuted the “histiry of seizures” and is attempting to sue news sources for quoting so, because he had heard it from his own lawyer saying so.

P.S. I wouldn’t place too much trust in antibiotics either. They may control but they don’t cure. There are too few studies proving the actual long-term use of prescribed drugs and most of them are new. You can have Accutane for example, in generic forms and under different brands and prices.
Almost no doctor tells you that Diabetics Class II can be cured with proper diet, without the use of insulin injections and without the use of costly oral prescribed drugs. They don’t tell because it is more profitable to feed patients/sufferers….drugs!
Source of info: Mercola.com Google for Mike Adams - you will get a whole load of never-before-revealed info on the true state of world-distributed drugs, Melamine, bird flu, and corporate greed, etc
