  • Why Can’t I Hope That Obama Fails?

By PrivatePigg ~ January 27th, 2009. Filed under: Obama.

Hot Air: “The locution ‘I want him to fail’ is not what you say the first week the man’s been inaugurated.”

Why not? He’s my President (although I did not vote for him), and I will treat him respectfully (unlike George Bush was treated), but why do I have to hope he is a success?

    1. Obama is more-than-likely going to push a very liberal agenda that I think will be horrible for the country in the long run. So why wouldn’t I want his policies to show themselves for what they are as soon as possible so that the people realize what policies we need to avoid? The worst thing that could happen is that Obama pushes through policies that will be popular in the short-term, convincing people of their necessity, only to be harmful in the long-term (the harm, of course, can always be blamed on something else). To heck with that. I want him and his policies to be unpopular right away so that there is no confusion as to what policies we need to avoid.

    2. Just because a politician fails does not mean that the country necessarily fails (in the long run). Liberals will agree that George Bush was a failure (in fact, many will agree that he is “the worst President of all time”). These same liberals agree that Barack Obama has the ability to “right the wrongs” and “restore our standing” in the world. These same liberals agree that Barack Obama can turn things around, despite George Bush. Likewise, I believe that Obama can be a failure, show the country the problem with a liberal agenda, and then we can elect someone who can clean up.

    3. In actuality, the most dangerous Presidents are those who “succeed” with only token opposition. People like FDR were able to forever alter our country precisely because they were so successful pushing their programs through while maintaining their popularity in order to stay elected and bully the opposition. Look to our recent history: I have heard many times from liberals about how the media and the people stopped asking George Bush the tough questions, thus allowing him to “succeed” at implementing his programs and ideas. Because he was so successful he was able to accomplish things that liberals would say made him a failure. What if Bush “failed” at setting his agenda and was unable to start the Iraq War, authorize wiretaps, or turn Gitmo into a prison? These “failures” would be a success for our country, according to liberals (if liberals were honest about it - I’m sure they still would have criticized him).

So I hope he fails. I hope the country is just fine. I hope we get back to conservative principles.

And for those who would ask whether or not I would want him to succeed for the benefit of our country despite my ideology (basically asking whether or not I hope he is right and I am wrong, because the health of the country is more important than my ideology), I disagree that creating a society of government dependents is a benefit. I’ve lived in Europe. It is fun for vacation. I do not want the United States to become that. I would rather pay for my own health care and college than have the government tax me to the point that I cannot have the standard of living I currently have (and is not attainable in Europe).

Besides, it’s not like the liberals ever supported our last President. But now all of a sudden it’s treasonous to say so.

    1. I support him as much as Code Pink supports our troops.
    2. I support him as much as N.O.W. supports Ayaan Hirsi Ali.
    3. I support him as much as the Hollywood community supported Theo Van Gogh.
    4. I support him as much as Nancy Pelosi supports the Catholic Church’s teachings on life.
    5. I support him as much as Al Gore supports cutting down on his personal carbon footprint to save the world.

There’s a lot more where that came from at the link.

This is what we don’t need:

Rep. Bob Inglis (R-S.C.) said that Obama was sincere and “impressive” during his meeting with Republicans Tuesday afternoon.“There’s real desire in this room to figure a way back to prosperity,” Inglis wrote on Twitter. “[The president] and Republicans here [are] expressing deep concern about unemployment.”

“If [the] President carries this on it does open door for a new tone!” Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) exclaimed.

“Sharp differences are muted,” Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) Twittered.

Inglis said that a comment by Obama that he would rather be a one-term president who addressed the economy than a two-term president who did not went particularly well.

Another attendee called him the, er, “Charmer-in-Chief.”

Hoping some one fails because you don’t agree with their ideologies is horrible. How can you say that you want whats best for your country when you are hoping for failure. How about you give his policies a chance…its only been days since he has been elected and he has a big task ahead of him. Get over your “conservative” values, and see if he can actually help our failing country….because with the way things are going now your conservative values is all you are going to have. This is just as bad as not supporting President Bush. If you care about our country…then don’t hope the next guy will clean it up after President Obama….expect it now and hope President Obama succeeds!

If President Obama succeeds, I’ll be living in France, again. Maybe that will make lots of people happy. Maybe lots of people will consider him, and our country, a success. Maybe he’ll be considered a success by every single American except for me. I don’t want that. I don’t want him to succeed, simply because I don’t agree with him on what a “perfect” country would look like.

If I took over office and wanted to create a country that had a small amount of social programs (basically a safety net), low taxation, very little government spending, a lowered drinking age, unwavering support for Israel, no government health care, keep our troops in Iraq until the war is won, state choice on abortion, etc., would you hope I succeed? What if I accomplish all those things and I am considered a great President by 99% of America, but you are living in a country you don’t recognize or want to live in? You still going to pray for me? Or will you hope that people recognize that what I have created is not good, will deem me a “failure,” and will elect someone more aligned with your views of what America should be?

The difference between me and the Bush-haters is that I don’t hate Obama, I won’t call him names, I won’t demean the office of the President or libel my country, and I will always consider him my President. Plus, I hope he DOES succeed in the areas in which I agree with him - support for Israel, etc.
