  • Obama: Fear/War Mongerer

By PrivatePigg ~ February 2nd, 2009. Filed under: Europe, Liberals, Obama, terrorism.

Or so it would be said if he were white, Republican and from Texas.

“Here’s what I think is important for everybody to understand: We’ve got real threats, and we have to remain vigilant,” he said. “We have to make sure that we don’t let up, because there are people who would be willing to do us harm.”

Which reminds me of this old clip:

    Then there is this:

Under executive orders issued by Obama recently, the CIA still has authority to carry out what are known as renditions, secret abductions and transfers of prisoners to countries that cooperate with the United States.

Current and former U.S. intelligence officials said that the rendition program might be poised to play an expanded role going forward because it was the main remaining mechanism — aside from Predator missile strikes — for taking suspected terrorists off the street.

…The European Parliament condemned renditions as “an illegal instrument used by the United States.” Prisoners swept up in the program have sued the CIA as well as a Boeing Co. subsidiary accused of working with the agency on dozens of rendition flights.

    Here, too.

I guess that’s what happens when you are an inexperienced pol not privy to national security information who runs his mouth criticizing others. Now that Obama is in the White House and is privy to the information to which his predecessors were privy, his language, rhetoric, and policies re: the war on terror seem to be pretty similar. Of course, he wants you to believe otherwise and is not going to use the phrase “war on terror” in hopes of sounding more Hopey and Changey.

And that’s why no one is really taking him seriously:

“You were standing against the Iranian people in the past 60 years,” Mr Ahmadinejad said during an address in the western region of Khermenshah that was broadcast by state television.

“Those who speak of change must apologise to the Iranian people and try to repair their past bad acts and the crimes they committed against Iran.”

As to the troops, he said he expected two kinds of “deep and fundamental” change.

“Meet people, talk to them with respect and put an end to the expansionist policies. If you talk about change it must put an end to the US military presence in the world, withdraw your troops and take them back inside your borders.”

Mr Ahmadinejad said the advocates of change must “stop supporting the Zionists, outlaws and criminals”.

    And here:

US President Barack Obama’s offer to talk to Iran shows that America’s policy of “domination” has failed, the government spokesman said on Saturday.

“This request means Western ideology has become passive, that capitalist thought and the system of domination have failed,” Gholam Hossein Elham was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.

“Negotiation is secondary, the main issue is that there is no way but for (the United States) to change,” he added.

To show the world that we really mean business, Obama went and cut our military budget.

Not two weeks and he has faced unanimous Republican opposition to his craptastic spending bill, and he has been lectured by the likes of the Iranian President. This is what you get when you purchased something sight-unseen (although many of us knew exactly what we were getting).
